in art •  7 years ago

Constantin Brancusi (19 February 1876, Hobita, Romania - March 16, 1957, Paris, France) was a Romanian sculptor with overwhelming contributions to the renewal of language and plastic vision in contemporary sculpture. Constantin Brâncuşi was elected a postum member of the Romanian Academy. The French and Americans designate it, most often, only by their surname, which they write without diacritical marks, Brancusi, pronouncing it according to the rules of pronunciation of the French.

The Romanian genius gave suggestive names to all of his works of art. The Infinity Column and the Kissing Gate are two of the most known of his sculptures which are exposed as replicas in the city of Targu-Jiu, the closest biggest city near his place of birth. The Table of Silence is another famous sculpture of his, that can be seen in the quoted city. Every piece of art has a mystery behind, a story, and is opened to many interpretations from Critics around the world.

Remains remarkable an episode in his sculpture workshop where the famous banker David Rockefeller visited one day. The man greatly appreciated the Romanian. "How can I help? Do you need to buy something for you? " asked the American mogul. Brancusi, not at all embarrassed by the presence of the businessman, said sharply, "If you really want to help me, go take the sweep that sits behind the door and sweep the shop! There's been a lot of dust and I can not work when it's mess. "

The last important work was the Flying Turtle in 1943. Since that time, many exhibitions in the United States and Europe have provided him with fame. The largest exhibition was at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York in 1955.
By a decree of naturalization of June 13, 1952, he acquired French citizenship. Brâncuşi offered everything he had in his workshop (more than 80 sculptures) under the testament of the National Museum of Modern Art in Paris, provided the workshop was turned into a museum and restored in its original condition.
