Breath in her fragrance.
Re-evaluate the old ways of loving.
Gently activating the One True Heart.
Sensing. Beyond the veils of deception.
~Ally.

Today's 'Color Challenge for Steemians' as presented by @kalemandra is Sunday Purple.

And a perfect time to include 'You See ~ I See' as presented by @marillaanne, to illustrate and describe the processes of creating this assemblage: 'The Waterfall of Life.'

My Art:

My creative modalities have been many and varied. Including:

  • Painting: Oil and acrylic, watercolour and silk painting.
  • Drawing: Pencil and coloured pencil, charcoal and pastel.
  • Printmaking: Silk screen, etching and lithography.
  • Mixed media: Collage and assemblage, environmental sculpture and all sorts ephemeral ‘eco curios.’
  • Photography and montage.

Transitioning from one modality to another, there have been a few, but consistent threads weaving in and out of my art work, including:

  • An affinity felt between nature, natural healing and art.
  • A love of symbols, numbers, association and representation.
  • A love of beauty and unity, harmony and balance.
  • A love of pure colour and muted tones, light and dark, transparency and translucency.

You See:

  • Images within squares and rectangles.

  • A figure with hands crossed over the heart area. Four figures with hands held as if holding something at the throat area.

  • Maybe you can see the symbol of 11:11, incorporated into this work? But are a little unsure about the netting, squiggles and little balls.

I See:

  • A work that was one of a series of 12 collages, where glass was first employed to separate the two layers of images.

  • Works produced in 2002 ie 15 years ago.

  • Work using my own photographs, for the first time, for collage work.

  • Two years part-time Photography Course: Learning how to use my Nikon FG. Developing and printing my own photographs.

  • The works in this series were only meant to be 'models' for larger works, But they were exhibited in an art gallery in the Blue Mountains.

The Process: Background Layer:

  • Black and white photograph: Small waterfall, at Imperial Gardens, Terrey Hills, Sydney. The photograph, hand tinted with oil paints.

  • A colour photograph: Throat and heart area with hands crossed over the heart. The photograph, slightly raised above the surface of the background image.

The Process: Foreground Layer:

  • Netting: Dampened and scrunched. Let to dry and massaged into folds and creases. Spread over a layer of glass.

  • Four long rectangles, slightly raised on top of netting. The same figure in each: Looking up with hands holding the 'energy of the throat/communication.')

  • Lines through these rectangles represent a Star Tetrahedron: Three dimensional 'Star of David.'

  • Two squares: Slightly raised on top of netting. Middle of Purple Iris: Symbolizing the link between Heaven and Earth.

  • Spanish moss with blue and violet silk threads representing the energy of the 11:11.

Final Process:

  • A box frame was made with sides lined with scrunched silk, dyed green and purple.

  • The foreground and background layers were enclosed within the box frame: A separation of about 25 mms. between them. The box frame was then sealed with a glass covering, as per normal framing.

Beside the Waterfall:

When you look at the first (and last) image, what do you see now?

  • Perhaps your own love of gardens and being close to nature?

  • Or feeling energized by water: Waterfalls, lakes and streams, or the ocean?

  • Possibly your own experiences with 11:11. Or a growing curiosity about the 11:11 and other double numbers?

  • Or a personal need to see the bounty of your own inner 'garden' ~ With the lifting of the 'Veils of Perception?'

ABOUT: You See ~ I See.

'You See ~ I See' isn't a contest. However it will 'challenge' your perception.

Entering into this activity in all likelihood will transform what you may have felt was 'ordinary' in your own environment into something that becomes fresh and alive once again.

If you resonate with the concept, share one of your own 'You See ~ I See' posts with the tag #useeisee. All the details can be found in Marilla's latest post:

The Description and Story of "You See, I See" and how it became #useeisee

Amazing waterfall ... something that can not be revealed.

It was a really beautiful waterfall @jondahl ~ Pleased you like it. Almost seemed a shame to have it disappear beneath the 'veils.'

But although you can't see the waterfall clearly in the final image ~ You still know that it's there now.

Yes of course...

you complete this challenge Beautifully...
best of luck :)

Thanks so much @raja.

Although I created this work 15 years ago, and it was exhibited at that time, it's the first time I've been able to actually write about it ~ Explaining the process of producing it.

Great art! Color is amazing

Thanks so much Maya. The colour of the center of the irises was especially amazing. Love how complementary colours, like the purple and yellow really vibrate together.

I see purple waves and geometric patterns. I see the threads that bind us to nature. What an amazing piece of art, Ally!

Thanks so VERY much Daniel.

After sharing Blue Faceted Light yesterday, I thought it would be interesting to go back to when I first used glass to separate layers within a work. I couldn't believe it was actually 15 years ago.

It's wonderful to see what you see in this work now. ESPECIALLY: 'The threads that bind us to nature.' Thank YOU.

A work I have yet to share is a sculpture called 11:11, where the dark tall rectangles, evolved to be transparent 'pillars.'

Love synchronicity and how things come together ~ In whatever time it takes: There is something about this 15 yr old work, and the transparent 5 yr old 11:11 sculpture, and your description now, that feels like it may birth something new again. Will have to sleep on it.

Hey , hope you are fine!
Amazing artwork!! I love this purple colours :)

Thanks so much @psywalker. Yes the purple was quite electric.

I'd love to be able to share the other 11 assemblages that were part of this series. But unfortunately the quality of the photographs, taken at the time of production, has a lot to be desired.

Some of the actual works, I no longer have. The ones that I do have, are framed behind glass, and were so well made, that it would be quite difficult to take them apart now, in order to photograph the separate layers.

Was just fortunate that I'd been able to take photographs of the separate layers of this one.

Love the purple!

Thanks so much @carmenmaria24

Yes, the purple in this work became quite magical ~ Enhanced by its complementary gold in the centre of the irises and the darkness from which the figures emerged. 🐋💜🐋

Very nice work!

Thanks so much @animal-shelter.

It's quite amazing how you can see even older images, when you share them here on Steemit.

nice post vote for me plz

Thank you @maxxiho.
