Wedding Car Decor - My First

in art •  7 years ago

Hey Guys!

It's been a really long time since I wrote anything on Steemit. I have posted a few photos on Steepshot but I'm not a photograph everything kinda person.

A lot has happened since the last time I wrote anything. A friend got married, three friends relocated, got a new job even...

Other stuff has happened too, one of which I wanna talk about this time around.

So, the friend (she's more like family than a friend) who got married last year, asked me to decorate her car for the wedding.

I was over the moon, of course. To be in charge of something that important made me feel honoured and terrified at the same time. I was confident for some reason... till D-day drew near.

I wasn't alone in all of this. My mom seemed more worried about my task than I was. She was on the internet in all her free time, looking for various kinds of décor that I could do, and YouTubing all the various ways in which the décor could be done.

Since my friend was to use her in-law's vehicle for the wedding, and it was a new one at that, they had but one request- no tapes and no wires or anything that could lead to scratches on the vehicle.

The colour theme for the wedding was purple and orange.

I got to work... I had a vague idea of what kind of décor I would make. Rains are a common occurrence in October over here so, I wanted the décor to be waterproof.

I had watched all the videos that my mom had selected based on the simplicity of the procedures involved. Watching them gave me a sense of direction as well as emboldened me further.

I made flowers for the car's doors and bought netted cloth for the rest of the car. Curling ribbons were a must, so I bought those too.

As D-day drew closer I got more nervous as I had never done any of this before. There was no real way for me to practice this stuff because whatever material I had bought was the last of the stock... and once I had cut any of the cloth, there was no way for me to replace the cloth.

Luckily, we had just bought a new car that was similar to the car that I was supposed to decorate. The design was similar, but not entirely.

I practiced on our car and got a brief idea as to how much cloth would be required and how much of it I could cut.

I began making the finishing touches for the car, like the bow I was to put on the front of the car and so on...

D-day arrived and I was nervous as hell. My brother was there to help me out for most of the tough parts (thank goodness for that). Having him there to help me figure things out and tell me if something could be done better, really helped me out.

By the end of it all, I was pretty pleased with the outcome. Sure, it was not exactly as I had pictured it... I barely had a picture in mind... but it did come out as I'd hoped it would- simple yet elegant, and not too much or too little.

My friend's words really made me feel like I had done the best job I ever could. "When I first saw the car I was like wow," she said, "It wasn't too much or too little. It's exactly what I wanted."
