Hello all and welcome to the home stretch! Paintwork is sealed and now paint the smaller details such as the equipment, then we can start on the washes. Not sure what I mean by washes? You will see 👍
Since I am keeping the hatch open I need to paint the interior side of white, as this was the normal internal colour of the German tanks. Brush painting the white over tan would not look very nice, best way to do it is airbrush so back to masking!
This mask was very simple for this, just paper and tape, the blue you can see is a little bit of masking fluid, it is a latex product and great for masking odd shapes.
Simple. Once the paint dries I will need to clear coat it again before I continue, but no biggie. Now to paint some of the equipment.
The easiest way to paint most of the smaller tools and cables is to put a piece of paper behind them, this way if you get the shakes like me you wont get paint all over the model lol.
Above you can see I am painting the parts that should be metal with flat black first before a top coat of steel colour. This helps the metallic paint spread on the surface and make any areas of thin paint look a bit more worn/dirty.
Below you can see the main reason to add a wash to the model. Here I am adding the Tamiya Enamel wash black to the grills over the engine deck, creating a little illusion of there actually being a grill on the tank. This is also why you coat the tank in gloss clear layers, if you don't the enamel will sink straight into the underlying paint and ruin it.
And above the engine deck grills are done! I love this effect.
I cover most of the models details with the Tamiya wash Brown as this is more subtle than the black. Let me show you road wheels and how the detail pops. I wont need to tell you what I have and have not done. 👍
So much fun. More to come tomorrow!
MASSIVE thank you to everyone who has taken the time to vote, comment or resteem my posts. I really appreciate the help. 👍😘
