GALVESTON, TX- Sand, Sharks, & SkyDiving (CHECK IT OUT)

Hey My Steemit Family

I have been living 8 hours closer to the beach than I ever have in my life for about a year and a half and still had not gone out for a proper beach adventure until last sunday. I am only about 30 minutes from the beach is what makes this so ridiculous.

Last Sunday was my first proper beach trip and I had a blast. I'm not even going to pretend to be very adult about this. My main goal was to play in the sand, and that I did. Wasn't sure what I wanted to make, so I just defaulted to a generic face to wipe the dust from my sculpting abilities.

This is what happened:

I used a skinning knife and some of my old clay sculpture tools to shape it up. I used a seaweed for the hair and bottle caps for the eyes.

While I was working on this a guy a little ways down the beach was reeling in a shark, so I decided to take a break and go get some photos.

When he was getting ready to turn this shark back there was some man there hollering, "Don't put him back in the water. I came out here to swim." Everyone laughed as he started carrying the shark out.......except that one guy. There was a look of terror on his face for what must have been the rest of the day.

Back To Sculpting.....

So I put my camera up and continued working on my sculpture when another guy right out in front of us caught a little hammerhead. It was about the size of a small catfish

Back to Sculpting for real this time. I finished the face up and decided that it was a shark kind of day. So, Leah and I sculpted a shark. Well, this shark's lineage might be questionable, but it is sharky to say the least.

Distorted Dopplegangers

While we were out there I met a guy that might be @darrenclaxton 's distorted doppleganger. There was a guy walking around with a metal detector with a big ole bright red beard. After talking to this guy for a while I realized his historic knowledge was far beyond mine. It turns out that he owns a museum in Wyoming where he presents old guns he digs up out of the ground. I think that is pretty awesome. So If you are ever in Wyoming it might be worth a look. It is simply called Dug Up Gun Museum.

Getting Ready To Jump Out of a Perfectly Good Airplane

While we were hanging on the beach we saw a few people just falling out of the sky. I was thinking how badass it would be to jump out of a plane and land on the beach, and then I got invited to do it. It turns out that the friends I came to the beach with have been planning on doing this for a while, and were looking for someone else to join.

So of course, I'm all about that shit. I have never been skydiving before, but it is something I have wanted to do since I was knee high. I have dreams all the time about flying and falling from the sky. Now it is finally about to happen. I made my deposit last night, and on the 13th of this month I will be jumping out of a plane. If I could only pinpoint exactly where on the beach I am going to land I can have someone standing there ready to hand me a beer as soon as my feet touch down.

I hope you are all having a great day.

Catching sharks from the beach might give a person second thoughts about going swimming there, but perhaps I'm just paranoid...

Especially since the water isn't clear here

Cool post man, I'm so far away from the beach I gotta live vicariously through you haha. The sculptures were cool and I look forward to the sky diving post.

Thanks.. Well, if that is the case I need to make more beach trips.

Hopefully the video of the jump is epic. On that note, since I made my deposit for the jump I have been getting loads of calls from people trying to sell me life insurance. Lol

That's hilarious lol, stay safe brotha :)

Great post my arty friend!! Brilliant sculpture skills too!
I wish that was me detecting over there on the beach! It looks lovely and warm!

Thank you. He looked like he was having a blast out there. Bottle caps are probably most of what he was picking up, but the thrill of what could be combined with the beauty of the beach makes for a good time either way.

Looks like a fun day! I'm originally from Houston so I've spent many a beach day in Galveston :)

It was a blast. That is awesome. Any tips on the best spots to go?

Unfortunately not really, I'd just go wherever. My father has a timeshare there so these days when I go I mostly just hang out there.

Man you got a very good sculpture ability going on
I have to say what you created out of the sand is beyond words or comparison what a nice piece of work so stunning

Thank you. You are very kind. :)

Enjoy your skydive and thank for sharing

Thank You @scattemannieke.

Hey man, found you from Lit. Some damn fine sculptures you made there. I laughed picturing the guy nervously yelling about putting the shark back in the water. Skydiving seems really cool, you gotta let us know how it turns out! Cheers

Awesome. Thank you. Yes just a few more days until the skydiving adventure. I'm getting hyped.

How is lit working out for you. I don't get to use it much because it is so glitchy. I have been wondering if it is the app or my device?

Sorry I missed ya - long story but in short my computer is temporarily stolen and I've been off the web. Hoping you still see this

I don't use it nearly as much as I used to. I try to whenever I have the chance though- definitely not your device. It's always glitching out and giving me shit

Wao wao wao supper fantastic job
Amazing idea of the arts
I love your post

Thank you
