QUICK TIMELAPSE ART sequence (dtube exclusive): using masking medium & shimmery watercolours

in art •  7 years ago  (edited)

Today I couldn't resist the urge to paint something.

There are some art supplies I tend to forget about, which means it is time to try them again. I hadn't used the masking medium for a while and I had a palette of shimmery watercolours, so I decided to use them both. Also, I wanted to create something that would represent me symbolically.
Here is the outcome in the form of a really quick timelapse tutorial!

Signs, signs

Ever wondered why you're not typically like your sign?
In astrology, it is so that we have
🌞 Sun signs (the horoscopes people read about daily, monthly etc.), according to the day we were born
🌚 and Moon signs (the ones that explain your emotional side), according to the location of the Moon in the time of birth.

There are many reasons one can consider taking astrology in account when looking at the patterns in one’s life.
First of all, there is some sense in what we see in the sky. The stars and planets are a web of information, a reflection of what is happening on the world. It is often thus represented in the cultures and cultural heritage of the ancient Greeks and Romans, and others.
Secondly, I’ve found out so much of information so personal and exact, when I was explained the full analysis of my chart.
I happen to be a Leo ♌️ in the Sun sign, and a cancer ♋️ in the Moon.
So I chose two symbols - the ruling stellar objects of both signs: the Sun and the Moon. Deep blue signifies the water element, and the bright shimmery gold - the fire.

These colours are really fun to watch and work with, because of all that sparkle! They don’t provide much colour, but the reflection is amazing! To get the best effect, either paint on a darker surface or mix a bit with regular watercolour (in larger proportions of colour>pigment, the shimmery pigment will lose its brilliance).

The masking medium, on the other hand, requires patience and careful application. Also, it is important to apply the fluid in a not-too-thick layer, so to let it dry properly, before taking it off. Don’t peel the glue off too soon, but don’t leave the fluid for too long.

This was a quick expression which I decided to film as a break from writing.

Hope it inspires you to experiment with these techniques too!

Take care!
