A sadhu, also spelled saddhu, is a religious ascetic, mendicant (monk) or any holy person in Hinduism and Jainism who has renounced the worldly life. They are sometimes alternatively referred to as sannyasi or vairagi.
I've done this quick sketch during my travel in Nepal last year. Every time I arrive to Kathmandu I can't help feeling that I just jumped back couple of centuries to the past, this impression is stronger in the heart of the city - around Durbar square and at Pashupatinath temple. I've made a photo of one of them and worked from it a couple of weeks later, in the mountains. It is done in one sitting, around 3 hours, wet-on-wet on 8x10" linen panel
