EVERYBODY NOSE

“I can’t stay long, I’ve got an appointment.”
So said Sammy Sidecar, nose out of joint, bent.
Yes, someone had punched him in his sizeable nose,
First bringing blood, in epic, large flows!
Later, the bleeding abated, the swelling began,
And it became apparent he was a changed nose man!
“I could have the nose straightened, look more alert,”
“But I don’t think I’ll bother, they say it would hurt.”
“People say I’m looking around a corner,”
“I care not! I’m not an old nose mourner.”
“I’ll learn to live with things as they are.”
“Life is so hectic, not smooth caviar.”

Sammy Sidecar joined the police, as a cadet.
He was determined to be the best policeman yet.
Through dedication and diligence he rose,
Through the ranks, with the help of his nose.
His nose, leaning sharply to the side,
Gave the impression he always snooped and spied.
“Always alert, searching, fixed on the job.”
So said his superiors, even though he was a slob.
Consequently, he speedily rose through the ranks,
Soon promoted to Superintendent, to his nose he gave thanks.
Sidecar was heard oft’ saying, “I follow my nose.”
So it was frequent that around in circles he goes.
Everyone he looked at, he looked askance,
Making them most uneasy, guilty, guilt would enhance.
Yes, his permanent appearance, nose askew,
Heightened self-guilt, without further ado.
The Police Commissioner resigned, lost the plot.
Thinking, “Sidecar has discovered what I got,”
“From the Crime Bosses, down in East End.”
“If this is revealed, it’s the downward trend.”
And so Sidecar, as Commissioner did replace him.
In his new uniform, he looked very grim!
