BEASTLY TALES

THE HERMIT

I live in a most simple way,
My hut is built from straw bale hay.
I don’t have electricity,
I boil stream water for a cup of tea.
In fact the stream is my washroom too,
For me, my clothes, plus my morning brew.
I live alone, as you can see,
Far away from humanity.
And, if you will note please,
I’m also avoiding contagious disease.
My little hut is foliage covered,
In creepers and ferns it is smothered
There’s neither radio nor T.V.
No internet or computer you see.
And, most important of all,
No telephone for receiving any call.
People think I’m a crazy old coot,
But for me, things are just beaut!
I even made myself Dandelion wine,
So at cocktail hour all is just fine!
I grow my veggies and make my bread,
So about going shopping nothing is said.
No greedy banks, no bills to pay,
Nothing like that to cloud my day.
And if I need coffee, or perhaps tea,
I trade my veggies most successfully.
Now you may think that lonely I may be,
But that is just not so, you see,
For I live with my animal friends,
And I will always, always go to no ends,
To care for them in every way,
They help enormously to make my day.
I have a dog and a small cat,
They are healthy, neither thin nor fat.
I have some goats just for milk,
I have a pet pig whose ears are like silk,
And, of course, there’s wild life too,
In fact, I have my very own zoo!

I had a problem with some snivelling louts,
Who’d ride trail bikes with screeching shouts,
Alarming wildlife, and myself too,
But I gave thought and came up with a clue.
A trap I made with a springy sapling,
And a series of ropes ready for grappling.
So when they’d ride deliberately loud,
In a tight bunch, an odious crowd,
The trap went off near a sludgy swamp,
Diverting the bunch from their raucous romp,
Into the very muddy, slushy slime,
Oh what a feeling most sublime!

I Love it!

This is how I want to retire.
To live off the land, would not be so dire.
Keep turmoil at bay, now let me be candid.
I am the man hermit, my life is so splendid.

Thanks, great comment.

"So about going shopping nothing is said.
No greedy banks, no bills to pay,"...Into the very muddy, slushy slime,
Oh what a feeling most sublime!..that is another very interesting poem, how i wish it continues,am almost carried away with your art @beastlybanker.

Thank you.

wow :) my life is totally opposite of what I've just read above. I wish I get, at least a week to spend like you do :D
Like, a place far from this busy and annoying world, where there are fairies and elves, lakeside huts and you don't feel like coming back to the planet earth but you have to :( Because without you at your workplace, the sky is falling apart so you need to be there :D

Great poem. I almost want to live there myself.

Thanks.

Now how is one to offer a quality comment
when everything good has already been said
such concise clean lines
what would I give to live in those vines
I'd crawl between the cracks of your goodly mud hut,
and know that now and again I may get a tut tut
but never a foot to fall on my head
I will now give you a follow and a crumb of my bread

Great reply, thanks every crumb counts.

I think his lifestyle sounds rather nice! I love this poem.

Thanks.

Your words I do feel and see
As I lay down inside my teepee
No distractions to hold back my stray mind
It roams free and no restrictions it find
Wondering what the fools run after
I can only see for them a future full of disaster

Nice poem.

Thanks man!

👨 I have to translate English poems, but it is a fun process.
Thank you for the nice poem.

Your welcome, glad you enjoy them even though it takes time to translate.

Beautiful Piece sir..
From the Hemit I learnt to

  1. Be Simple
  2. Make good use of what I have
  3. Solitary life is needed sometimes
  4. Live happily without the material things in life
  5. Look for something and get happiness from it.
  6. Live Love Learn.

Wow.
Excellent Poem it is.
Like it so much. keep it up.

Happy Steeming.

Thanks.

I love this poem,, Alot

Thank you.

Dandelion wine is a good one. I need to try it sometime. It is unfortunate though that despite trying to escape the madness of modern life, you still have to contend with those and snivelling louts.

The story for me, or rather the poetry for me is--there ain't no escape from modern life. I guess.

yes, that's right no in a modern world it is very difficult to live simply.

A bot a bid it must be said,
Worth every cent, quality unread.
Shout it out across the steemit sky,
let every minnow, dolphin and whale know your poems breath life.
Why pick on a few when majority are shrewed,
expose the cunning, abusive and down right rude.
Content is important and should be rewarded,
leave the banter alone, obtrusive thwarted.

Thank you.

You sir are a poet.
But you probably already now it.
