BEASTLY TALES
THE WING WALKER
There is a small aerodrome,
Not too far from Frederick’s home.
He had learned to be a wing walker,
Aiming to please many a gawker,
Gasping and watching many a stunt,
For excitement wing walkers must bear the brunt.
So Frederic would, in an old Tiger Moth,
Sit in the second seat as the plane took off.
And when they had slowly achieved some height,
He climbed onto the wing showing no fright.
He tightly gripped onto the wing stays,
And stood up, the crowd to amaze.
The Tiger Moth, then did a barrel roll,
Spinning along in a dramatic scroll.
His feelings were mixed on the loop the loop.
But his fortitude did, in no way droop.
They were flying along, on a wing and a prayer.
When Frederic realized the pilot wasn’t there!
Now, what to say, what to do?
Flying pilotless into the blue.
But a strange vision, what a strange thing,
The pilot was now standing next to him on the wing!
The pilot performing this amazing quirk
While the crowds, far below, went beserk.
The pilot screamed, “They think I’m quite the lad”,
“And being up here isn’t too bad”,
“But, too long here, I’d better not lurk”,
“I’d better get right back to my flying work”.
The daredevils then circled around,
And then did gracefully land on the ground.
As they taxied back to the airport tower,
They ran into a cloud of dust that did shower,
From a Feeling Lucky Airlines DC3,
It was taking off you see.
This was all before the Air Transport Safety Board,
Tightened regulations so that air safety soared.
So whilst it is nowadays safer to be flying,
Boring it may be, but better than dying!
Bravo Richard !
A surreal and humorous poem made me want to fly with a friend ... very high!
