Old STONE Village πŸ“Έ & 🎨 BODY PAINTING (painting & photography)

Dear community, here you will see an artwork I created in an old stone village in the mountains of Bulgaria. I am sharing also photos from the village itself.

I have created 4 different photo sessions there. Two of them were made in 2008. This artwork here is one of two created in 2010. The idea was to connect images from the traditional Bulgarian culture, the unique view, and body painting.

The village is called Kovachevitsa, located in the Rhodope Mountains in Bulgaria, about 119 km distance from the capital-Sofia. The name was mentioned for the first time in the Ottoman registers between 15th and 16th century. It was built by refugees from different areas. Some say they were running away from the Ottoman power, other stories speak about escaping from the back death- plague.

The village is very far in the heart of the mountain and it remained independent from the Ottoman administration.

The isolated location and the fresh water from the river Kanina were a perfect foundation for a new, free life.

The population at the end of the 15th and the beginning of the 16th centuries was 17 persons.

In 1905, there were 1740 inhabitants. Around 1970 many of the houses were abandoned and began to fall apart.

Kovachevitsa is protected as a historical location for its unique architecture.

A lot of creative people, photographers, writers, painters from Sofia were attracted by the silence, good air and stone architecture of the village. Many of them bought old damaged houses in the 70ies and renovated them in the same historical way.

Kovachevitsa is also very close to Greece. It is just 2 hours away from the greek seaside.

Wish you all a lovely evening, and a great start in the new week.

Thank you very much for your comments & upvotes.
This helps me to be more independent from commission works, and spend more time creating what I believe I should.
It also helps me to find time to write my body art history & initiation research book.

With love & light

Hello, thank you very much for your kind support. I really appreciate it and will do my best to be there. πŸ€©πŸ™

I think the other reason that makes the village so unique is talented artists like you!

Thank youπŸ˜€, I find it always nice to combine to old and the new. The village is very empty, feels often as abandoned. The few old ladies from the area were a bit shocked by the bodypainting. Soon I will share the other projects from there☺️

Your art is beautiful. The design on the mannequin puts me in the mind of Native American colors in their jewelry. The pictures of the village and the type of folks that live there is very interesting. Much like the art districts of New York and the Pacific Norwest in my Country.

Thank you. Well a lot of national, traditional textiles around the world look very similar. One could find such patterns in Mexico, the Balkans, but also in the Himalaya. It was a crazy heat on the day of the shooting and I am glad my model managed to stay long enough on that roof.

Perhaps, most difficult and at the same time obligatory in architecture is simplicity. Simplicity of forms obligates to give them wonderful proportions and correlations that would report necessary harmony.Your post pleased me, I wish large material achievements to you
