Tattoo Art - Matching Key story & Friendship

in art •  5 years ago

Hi! :)

I have met with a lot of different opinions related to tattoos, especially when it comes to matching tattoos.
"How is that going to look when you're old?"
"What if you regret it?"
"What if you get bored?"
Blah blah blah

Personally, I have a lot of them, and the way I see it, a tattoo is something like a stylized scar - a scar with a good story behind it. So, having that in mind, have no regrets either, but to each its own.
If you want, let me know in the comments bellow your opinions about tattoos, would like to know. 😊

Long story short, a friend and I did a matching tattoo - matching in concept, different in design.

Did mine a couple years back, by myself, so the pictures are of questionable quality, since it was diy with camera positions and timer. 😁
There's me:

and my leg was sore for days, because of abnormal position I held it in. 😂

Inspiration for the key was from this, for the upper part of it, to be precise; just wanted something more simplistic.:

The wing was free-handed, since I find it fun to experiment when I tattoo myself.
Generally, at least whom I came across, tattooed people don't like to explain the meanings. Mine has some deeper meaning for me because it is connected with some of my other tattoos, but the overall concept was - the wings represent dreams, goals, call it whatever, and the key is kind of self-explanatory in that combination. But, the key is - broken.

Here is the lining:

And shading, which was random inspiration at the time, because - why not:

And this is how it looks now:

Couple of years later, and a year or two from now, my best friend and I did a matching tattoo (which is a story for another post, since this is already a long one) and also did this one the post is about... hm, call it half-matching.

She likes minimalism, so that was the pointer for her design. It is consisted of an anchor, and a simpler version of my key.
I fly too high (wings) - she holds me down (anchor). Her key is whole, so it is representing how important is to stay grounded.
There was a long pause between that one and the last tattoo I did, but she wanted it to be perfectly unperfect, so the key and red thread were free-handed.

That was a fun read @bloomerang, thank you. I’m ‘about’ 50% covered. It’s easier for me to say “I don’t have any below my waist.”
