The level of detail and the atmosphere of this piece is pretty amazing. Apparently there are two versions of the same painting - one in London and other in Paris (Louvre) the atmosphere of the paintings are different though

Leonardo Da Vinci is one of my idols, a true Renaissance Man.
Did you know that the only way to read his journals is by holding them in front of a mirror? He wrote them that way to keep the prying eyes of the Church from reading them.
(The Church chronically suspected him of being a heretic, but couldn't prosecute. Since his other hobbies included dissecting cadavers, Leonardo needed some type of cypher system.)

Love his use of light and dark in this painting. DaVinci was a true genius. Artist and engineer? How does one use both sides of his brain magnificently when so many of us struggle to use just one adequately? lol
