Arthur Symons Quote

Here is an excellent quotation about the deception which can occur within the theatre. By extension, this has implications for the movies we allow into our minds as well:

“The fatal transfiguration of the footlights, in which reality and the artificial change places with so fantastic a regularity, has drawn many moths into its flame, and will draw more, as long as men persist in demanding illusion of what is real, and reality in what is illusion.”

–Arthur Symons, The Symbolist Movement In Literature
