Next, I present some of the paintings that hang on the walls of my house. I hope you like it and do not forget to support with your vote.
Oil is one of the best techniques to paint professionally. It is a mixture of resins and oils with pigments. The oils give it fluidity, and with the pigments, the thicker and harder paint can be made.
Oil paintings provide a great deal of representation because they allow us to create many tones and the quality of the colors is very high. You can work slowly because it dries slowly, allowing you to make gradients, melting and shading quietly while observing reality. But above all its success lies in that once dry, the paint continues to have a lively and powerful color, thanks to its oily bases.
In the history of oil painting, the referent that had been invented by the Flemish painter Jan Van Eyck must be discarded, he used oil with great precision, he investigated this technique within the linear conventions of tempera, making a detailed drawing in a plaster covered table and applying successive layers of transparent oil glazes. In Italy, the Sicilian painter Antonello da Messina popularized this technique, which Renaissance painters took advantage of. The Venetians took the next step of painting on canvas with which a much larger surface was achieved and also allowed to roll up to facilitate transport and some Venetian artists such as Titian, for example expanded the technical possibilities on the basis of texture in the painting with oil base. Another significant scope was the possibility of the novel technique to achieve smooth transitions between values, as well as in the blurring of surfaces, the aerial perspective developed by Leonardo Da Vinci in La Gioconda.
Techniques on Oil Painting
1. Influence of the Primer and the Support
Paint on white primer. It is used especially if you want to go coloring from the light. Very used in marinas and landscapes.
Paint on a colored support. Thinking that this color will influence or be part of the work. For example, this technique is used to make portraits that emerge from the darkness (as in the baroque, where they painted the canvas brown before painting). And it is also used in other modern styles where it is left to see the base color.
It will also influence in the work how the chosen support is: papers, cardboard, wood, tablex, canvases, types of fabrics, and others that can be chosen.
2. Expressive capacity of the filling
The filling can be used in many ways: paint with spatula, pointillism or brushstrokes, brush work, textures applied with colored paste, oleopasto and collage, among other means that the imagination can design.
It also influences the work if we apply a specific texture to the primer. We can choose between marble powder, pumice stone, sand or similar. Never with organic materials. On this topic you can see the entry: Materials to create textures in the boxes.
3. Veladuras, Transparencias and Tonal Works
The glaze works better or worse depending on the colors that we are mixing and in what order. But this is already an expressive search that should be sought on purpose. This is because there are colors that are transparent and others that are opaque.
Transparencies or glazes can be created as optical effects and visual tricks that the painting achieves. Especially with solvent control work, tone and color.
More information about Veladuras.
4. Color Fusion
It is carried out thanks to the humidity of the paint during the drying time. Therefore, it is a work especially with solvents and wet paint to extend that drying time. It is used both wet on wet and the dry brush technique to create gradients.
ADVANTAGES OF OIL PAINTING:
Excellent color According to the brand we can find colors created with high quality pigments. For example MAIMERI PURE OILS, with very good and special pigments.
Control of the thickness or fluidity of the paint. Allows fillings and glazes. Oil paints can be dissolved with oils, turpentine and other mediums for oil and can also be thickened using pigments and oleopasto, a special thick mass to mix with oils.
Persistent material over time and good quality of the paintings. The oil has existed since the end of the 14th century, and the works of art continue with a fresh and lively color, after some cleaning and restoration processes.
DISADVANTAGES:
The oil, normally, is handled with Turpentine Essence (turpentine), which is toxic and stinks. Therefore, a room with ventilation is necessary. Nowadays there are new oils that do not smell and can also be diluted with other media without so much odor or toxicity.
The time it takes the oil to dry can be reduced or lengthened with other chemical liquids designed for it, the drying. But the drying will never be immediate.
RECIPE TO GET QUICKLY TO PAINT:
- Have a site that you can prepare and leave ready with the following:
An easel for the canvas or wood.
A box of oil paints, a palette or support to mix colors (I use a plate, a tile, a glass) and mediums (liquids to dissolve).
Lots of good brushes of all sizes and shapes. Read more information about brushes.
The site must have quality air and light.
Have an idea the clearer the better what you want to do.
Have at least two hours, because if not, it is not worth putting.
Calculate the time it takes to 1) concentrate, 2) prepare to paint, 3) the time used to clean and 4) time to collect materials at the end. That time is subtracted from the total and with that you know the time you really have to paint.
- Not receive visits or interruptions of any kind. And less if they will give you their opinions.
The mobile off. Be careful with the sounds that surround and influence us.
- Calculate the degree of comfort and if there is something that bothers, detect and fix it.
That things are organized and that it is easy to access what is needed is very important.
