"Iowa Farmhouse"

”Iowa Farmhouse” 11"x15"” (#3332) watercolor on Arches paper
by Lee Gordon Seebach

I found this abandoned house just a few miles from where I grew up in Iowa. I can't understand why people just walk away from properties like this. I mean, this house was perfectly livable at one time and valuable so why not sell it? Why just walk away and let the house deteriorate and become worthless? I don't get it.

Have an fabulously beautiful day today and every day!

Liberty 😀 Peace ☮️ Love ❤️

And yes, the rumor is true: I've been known to pick a mean five-string Bluegrass banjo. Shown here with my Gibson Mastertone RB250. "You can take the boy out of the country but you can't take the country out of the boy."

Hi chess monster. I don' t get that either!? But i love how you pictured it for us, resteeming and upped too!

Hello @dutchess Thank you so much for the upvote, resteem, and kind words!

My pleasure! 😀

It looks really nice! It must have been that people escaped from this amazing nature in the search of better life, without realizing the true beauty of the place... Love banjo! :)

Thank you very much @alexcote ! I checked out your blog...nice! Good luck on Steemit. 😊

Thank you, that means a lot to me! Good luck to you too :)

Que linda pintura :)

Muchas gracias! @rojasruthj69

Another beautiful scene @chessmonster. I had a look at your website yesterday and your portfolio is outstanding!

You must take great enjoyment from life my friend!

Missing the artporn tag :)

Maybe I'll have to reinstate it then! ha ha Thanks for visiting my website. I really appreciate it and the kind words. @tonyr And, yes, I love my life. 😍

Great watercolor! I always wonder the same thing about abandoned buildings. Wish they could tell the story! My great uncle played the banjo, and he always livened up family gatherings when I was a kid.

Much obliged @melinda010100 As Steve Martin said, "You can't be depressed and play the banjo at the same time!" 😃

I think that must be exactly right!

Beautiful painting ! Thanks for sharing @chessmonster. 100% upvoted from @chanthasam

Thanks so much @chanthasam !

Very nice... I really appreciate the way it's "slightly hidden," which seems so appropriate for an abandoned building.

I guess people walk away from things all the time; around here it's boats-- they suddenly "appear" in back yards and in marshlands, overgrown with vines and plants. At some point they really meant something to someone... and now all we're left with is the slight sadness of entropy.

Thanks so much for the good comment @reddragonfly

Maybe in a future post you can play something for us. I like bluegrass music. In the past I visited Texas and Louisiana regularly and went to bars where the played it. I even bought a CD with music of Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs. I am going to play it tonight I think. So much joy!
Keep on steeming, I definitely like your artwork.

Many thanks @rolf.bakker I play the banjo in the Scruggs style! Foggy Mountain Breakdown forever! LOL

@rolf.bakker Just thought of this today: IMHO the very best Bluegrass instrumental band was Country Cooking. They disbanded long ago and went their separate ways. Pete Wernick (banjo), Tony Trischka (banjo), Russ Barenberg (guitar)...I found them on Spotify today. They were grrrrrrreat!!!

I noticed I have the number "trouble among the yearlings" in my apple playlist.
By the way I wish you a happy 4th of July!🇺🇸

Cool, but it doesn't have banjo! LOL You just gotta listen to Pete and Tony do their double banjo thing!

Oh, and I learned how to play from Pete Wernick's books, and he's a good guy from what I know. We have written back and forth and he seems very down to earth and cool. They call him Dr. Banjo! 😎

I don't celebrate the 4th, but thanks anyway! Very thoughtful of you.

meep

Are you a music player also

Yes @bosjaya If there were two of me, one would be a painter and the other would be a musician. ha ha

Hahaha you turned out to be funny too @chessmonster

I really love this painting with its vibrant colors and simple theme. Bluegrass music would fit to it!

Thank you very much for the upvote and kind comment @kalemandra ! I'm just a country boy at heart, loving and painting the beauty I find.

So cool to turn anything you see into "art" i imagine people always stop by and ask you lot of questions once they see you painting in the middle of nowhere :)

Yes, they do that quite often. I don't mind if it's a quick, friendly stop and then they leave. It's the ones who want to chat for an hour that pose a major roadblock to the production of artworks! LOL

The countryside here in SE Iowa is littered with abandoned houses. It's so sad to see them left to decay. Like you said, these were once livable structures, so why weren't they sold? It saddens me to see them vacant. There are a LOT of very wealthy farmers around here who don't need the money, so I think they allow these places to crumble. They often use the overgrown yards to store bales of hay or farm equipment.

I think you're right... they don't care because they can afford to.

Abandoned house are not worthless, not sure if you wouldve painted it as modern house?

@nocopyrights You're absolutely right. I meant in terms of money. Old, abandoned buildings are often charming and very paintable. Especially when they're overgrown with weeds and trees like this one.

Love this piece. Nice banjo you've got there!

Thank you @jeffjagoe

Many abandon these farm houses for a career and life goals while some look for places like these after fulfilling their goals. Irony!

Good point! @mindboggle

Sumptuously!

Thanks! @slon21veka

With your paint i have a clear idea what's happening there, really cool man how a paint can take you to the place. Thanks chess

you right @dim753 you read my mind.... the man is good...period
do you also do or love art or a sports lover only?

Thanks @dim753 !

Am a great fan of Mr.Bean...

and hey...do also check my post on family versus office i sent last week which is very inspiring and follow for more...
thanks

Yep...it was me! 😉

I knew it! Do you play it sometimes this days?
Good old memories, i hope i didn't forget how to play guitar and piano :(

I do play sometimes, but it's a lot like knowing how to ride a bike: you don't forget. Although skills do deteriorate quickly, they can be regained rather quickly as well.

Lovely painting :)

lol, i said you.. @thecrytotrader

Thanks for the typo correction!

Welcome buddy :)

Yeah, I don't get it either man. There's an abandoned house not too far from where I live where they also left a once nice car, as well as a decent sized boat just sit there along with it to rot. Anyways, nice painting again, buddy!

Thanks @deadspace

@chessmonster
