Record Blockchain Art Sale At Christie’s w/ Artory

in art •  6 years ago

It hasn’t been long since Christie’s announced a partnership with Artory, and yet it already appears that a record has been set. On November 13, the Barney A. Ebsworth Collection raised over $317 million and has officially become the most valuable art sale recorded on a blockchain. Artory uses the Ethereum blockchain to record the life cycle of pieces of art, such as sales, auction dates, and other relevant information.

This wasn’t the only record broken that night. Edward Hopper’s Chop Suey fetched a staggering $91 million, becoming the most expensive Hopper sale of all time. In addition, David Hockney’s Pool sold for over $90 million, becoming the most expensive work of art sold by a living artist at an auction.
