Here is a rendered photo I made in photoshop of the Orb Weaver I found chilling out on my doorframe tonight.

The white cross on its back make this spider quite iconic.

Don't be deceived little flies. The white cross here is a ruse. It's host is not here to tend to your wounds.

Although she is likely happy to weave you a fresh warm blanket, and cover your wounds with gauze while you sleep.

As you can see my camera is kind of blurry at night, which is why I thought it might be fun to re-stylize it with some advanced photo filters.

I ended up with this Amethyst Arachnid version as the most abstract style.

Interesting photos of the spider.
I especially liked the cross on his back.
But in nature nothing happens just like that.
I wonder what role performs this cross have? :-)))

My best guess would be it attracts the bugs moths and gnats, which fly around so erratically they could easily be caught in a web. Normally those bugs will search for white light in the night time. My next best guess is it's for mating and attracting other spiders.

Thanks for the answer, very interesting!
