Another principle I follow is to work around the canvas, always keeping each area as well realized as the others. If one area falls behind, and looks clumsy and incomplete, that's your next area to work. This morning, I noticed the windows on the left, one of the first areas I developed, was lagging behind. The dominant color, a pale green, was already on the brush, so I got to work.
The color is really just a mix of cadmium yellow and black, with some white. The blues in the black come out with the yellow, and I don't need to add blue, unless that area is more blue than green, like the metal panels on the left side building. I mixed up three basic tones of the color, one using more white and yellow, and the other using more black. Then I began to work on the windows and the areas surrounding the reflections of light.
While painting, I noticed that the line between the bottom set of windows and the next set up was a little high. I also realized a flag that appears to be on the lamppost to the left is showing the lamppost may be too far left. That will have to stay because I'm not changing the rest of it for a flag. Talk to me tomorrow when I look at it better.
Then, I put plain cadmium yellow on the brush and filled in the neon yellow lights surrounding the Paramount sign. It was about 40 minutes of work. Not sure if I'll get to it tonight, as I'm refinishing that cool cabinet in the previous post!
