'Sunflowers' is the theme today in my Artstorm Contest. (Here is a link in case you'd like to enter.) They are so bright and cheerful to look at, don't you agree?
My picture is not an entry. It took me an hour to draw it and you are only allowed 15 minutes in Artstorm. Nevertheless, I enjoyed practising using Krita. I was pleased that I could see an improvement today.
So let's learn a bit about sunflowers.
Country Living
Sunflowers are easy to grow. I ran a competition for the children at my school one year. They each planted a sunflower seed around the edge or the school site. They had to water it every lunchtime. The winner was the one whose grew the tallest. It was fun!
Sunflowers are useful and nutritious. Sunflower oil can be made from the seeds and used for roasting and frying food.
The seeds of the sunflower contain vitamin E so are great for eating and for use in cosmetics. A Russian friend of mine, here on Steemit, told me sunflower seeds are a favourite snack in Russia.
Health benefits include the lowering of cholesterol and improving your immune system.
Sunflowers by Vincent Van Gogh - The National Gallery
Van Gogh is one of my favourite Impressionist painters. This is one of his most famous works that hangs in the UK in The National Gallery. There are four paintings in the series but this is my best one. I love the deep shades of colours in the flowers. They look so lively too.
I wish I could paint like that!
Wow! Nice art here :) i love sunflowers but sadly, there's no sunflower here in my hometown. And I have no idea where i can find some. Hehehe I already made an entry and already commented on your other post. Thank u!
