Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh (1889)
Vincent van Gogh was an impressionist painter through most of his career. In his early years' he used a monochrome palette for his work but when he discovered impressionism his work burst with colour as you can see above.
He had an almost childlike style in his painting' Starry Night', but, nevertheless, it is one of my favourite works by him.
The impressionist brush strokes can be seen clearly in this painting.

Vincent Van Gogh, Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear (1889)
Van Gogh painted his self-portrait shown above after he famously cut off his own ear and sent it to his girlfriend. Ooo, what a gift to receive!
You can see from this work that he was a skilled portrait painter. I always find three-quarter views very hard, don't you?

Sunflowers by Vincent Van Gogh (1888)
The wild and vibrant 'Sunflowers' is another of my favourites. In the image above you can see how he used the thickness of his paint to give the painting texture. Brilliant! I used the same technique when I was painting rocks on a beach. It works well.
Towards the end of his life, he suffered from intermittent bouts of madness. He painted prolifically between the bouts, developing a unique style to paint fast.
Do you like his work?
