Tips on how to get creative and find inspiration

Getting creative is tiring....but some of us just love to be creative as its part of what we do, who we are, and what we enjoy.

For instance, I am a song writer. I write both lyrics and music. Doing either is and has always been an art. If you are an artist of any type, you'll know that being creative is a 24/7 thing. It comes with inspiration and moment. But what about those moments where inspiration or feel lacks? I have found that certain things help with this issue and I am here to share what helps me find the inspiration to be creative at times.

  1. One thing I do that helps find inspiration is go for a walk by myself for about 30 minutes. I notice that going for a walk allows me to stimulate my mind just enough to start thinking about random things. I notice the cars driving by, the wind blowing, the architecture of buildings, the music that's playing in the distance. Sometimes I find myself thinking as I walk and the stimulation of the walk allows me to find something that makes me want to create.

  2. I watch a movie, read an article, or listen to a song. Sometimes you just gotta look to others to get an inspiration that you need. Art moves more when artists work together or rely on each other for ideas and thoughts. Of course, I am not suggesting plagerization but sometimes it takes the work of others to get the spark to create.

  3. Meditation. And there are many ways of meditating. Its all up to you on what you consider meditation. Meditating for me is sitting in the studio in deep thought.

  4. Write down random thoughts and review at a later time. I write down random thoughts at all times. If something comes to my head, I document it in my phones note pad. When I am looking to be creative, I may go back to those notes from the past.

  5. Take a break. #1 rule in anything artistic is it's okay to take some downtime. If you have been working a lot, taking a break might rejuvenate your inspiration and creativity in your brain. Such a break can last minutes or days. It all depends on how much of a break you feel you need. Sometimes I find myself going outside for some air and that's enough of a break.....sometimes it's a whole 24 hours without visiting the studio.

I would love to know if anyone else has any tips or tricks to share on this topic. Please reply and let me know if this can help you or better yet, share your own ideas of how to get creative and find inspiration!!!!
