I finished this piece today as a surprise for @lyndsaybowes.

I realize it won't be much of a surprise, now that I am posting it here. However, as I have been inspired by her since joining Steemit I wanted to do this. It was also spurred on by my wonderful connection with her MIL @marionbowes. She loved my painting I did for MY MIL, which was of sailboats in Nantucket, called the Rainbow fleet.

Our connection on Steemit has been wonderful and in a way in our comments it has been like exchanging letters or post cards with dear friends. When I learned that @marionbowes liked my piece I wanted to make a gift of a print to send to her. I then realized, why not send something for @lyndsaybowes as well. But, what to send? Then I recalled her wonderful chickens.

As a keeper and lover of chickens as well and a lover of animal art, I thought this is the perfect opportunity to make something for her that I will also love to make as well. Thus was born the Rooster portrait of her beloved Rooster "Peter Parker" He is a handsome man indeed.

Now, I am sure they will see this post before their gifts arrive (as one still has to be printed) but I hope they will still 'act' surprised.

This is a perfect example of how much I have come to not only love Steemit, but really appreciate it. After coming from the world of Facebook and Instagram, finding a place like Steemit where one can make real honest connections with others as well as a wonderful burgeoning artists community, this is what I had always hoped the internet COULD be.

The open and giving feeling others have and the idea of collaberation and sharing of contests and challenges really makes for a type of artist community that can span the globe living in the "Ones and Zeros" of the Internets language. I hope others find the same loving and giving place that I have been lucky to find here.

And here is to the love of art and sailboats and Chickens!

If you appreciate my work please feel free to upvote, resteem, and by all means comment.

Beautiful! And not only your work, but also how steemit has taken interaction to another, creative level ;)
Peter's portrait is fierce... just like him :P

I know, I really like the community on here. Especially for an introvert like me, I can be 'social' but also be 'at home' :)

Never have to leave your comfort zone... it works like that for me sometimes as well ;)

Omg I just found this post from @karencarrens' post about Peter Parker! @marionbowes just told me that there is a parcel waiting at her house for me from you, I haven't seen it in the flesh yet, this is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!! Omg...it's HIM! @eddiebowes will be so thrilled to see this, you may not know but our poor little super hero passed away a couple days ago, he was attacked by Mr. Pendock, and we tried to help him but unfortunately this time he couldn't be helped... I'm so grateful to have this artwork!!!! Marion is framing it for me, I cannot wait to have this on our wall!!

Oh good, I'm glad you will have a commemorative for him. I'm also so sorry, that is so sad. It's hard with chickens because sometimes roos will fight and they mean business. I guess in the animal world it makes sense because strongest will survive, but it is still hard on us Chicken mums to have it happen to our babies. R.I.P. little guy.

We'll treasure your art for life <3 Thank you again for such a thoughtful action!!! You rock Donna!

Hi @donnadavisart, I didn't realize that @lyndsaybowes didn't know about your painting. I just found it by doing a search. I mentioned your painting in Peter Parker's #blockchain-tribute... https://steemit.com/blockchain-tribute/@karencarrens/blockchain-tribute-rip-my-dear-godchicken-peter-parker. I love your work!

Absolutely in love with this piece! I was awestruck also by this particular rooster of @lyndsaybowe's! You are making me want to pull out my drawing tablet and get back to digi art again. But I spend SOOOO much time on it. Hahaha. It kind of starts to take over. But I definitely need to get back to drawing something, anything, really. Whoops, sorry. Haha. Enough about me.

If you did a timelapse of your progress of your artworks, I would LOVE to watch them. I LOVE watching those kinds of videos!!

I keep meaning to do a video of process, but I still haven't really figured out how to record the screen. I usually do a gif of the sketch and the various layers building up, but I just didn't with this one as I knew I wanted to share it on steepshot and you can only add one picture. I like using steepshot for at least one thing a day now as you can add so many tags (Though I still don't know if they actually all work or not)

I guess a thing to try to see if they ones after 5 work would be to type in the search for it, in the URL. https://steemit.com/trending/animal, (could insert any other of the "options" for trending, like "new", "hot", or "promoted" (whatever's relevant)), and see if your article pops up under those tags still.

I know that @overkillcoin puts up time lapse videos, he's super nice, and maybe if he sees me tag him, he will be able to help guide ya and figure it out. :D

Totally reminds me of one our our chickens!! Such pretty feathers!!

Id love to hang this one in my kitchen and think of the chicken fondly as I fry up my eggs :)

Well prints are on sale today, only $15 for small one ;) Just saying :) https://society6.com/product/the-rooster1120361_print

I'll have chickens one day hopefully, for now I can take glances at this one! ☺

You will have so much fun when that day comes. They are a blast. From chick to chicken, they are amusing. I have a tub of chicks in my bathroom under a heat lamp as we speak :)

This is so cool. It's like pointillistic but with streaks. Streakillistic. I love how it looks.

Thanks, I sort of think of it that way a bit too. When first playing with the oil and chalk pastel in digital I just loved how you could adjust the level of grain and the pattern it made in stripes made me want to really use that in the piece. I like that you can still use texture and brushstroke in digitial as well with such adjustments.

Love it! I especially love that her roosters name is Peter Parker!

I know, right? You should read her @walkwithme posts they are often full of cute chickens. also @walkwithme are fun posts you should do one of Dennis.

well, you know me...i prefer my days to stay home and not run the risk of running into other humans ;)

very nice!

thanks

lovely..

Great post. Have a nice weekend. :)

That is so awesome, I know she's going to love it! :D

I hope so, I might not let her know about this post, as if she doesn't see it before it arrives it might be an actual surprise :)

Waw, this one is perfect! Colors, attitude, textures... Very nice! You've won a new follower ;-)

Thanks and great! I love followers!

Loooove it! My aunt is making me a picture of chickens to hang. It will be my first chicken art!

OH fun, will you post about it so we can see?

Sure! She's doing a "paint by diamonds" kit. It should look pretty cool.

That is so gorgeous! I'm sure they will hang that piece with pride. He really was such a beautiful guy. Looking forward to seeing the painting in person!
