Named after my favorite college pub in Ithaca, NY, the Band Wagon speakeasie is a central location to the story of Ithaqa, that injects a little class into what could otherwise be a 1920's "Blair Witch Project." Not that that would be a bad thing, because I would totally watch/read that just for the record.
Here we do a little more character seeding with Leroy and Rosie, two speakeasy musicians who will show up in future story arcs. I intend for the middle arc to be a little less apocalyptic in what I hope will be my Ithaqa quad-rilogy. I want to tell a story that involves the mob more than the supernatural, because we can't have reality ending entities showing up every other Thursday now can we!?
Hugo has a huge crush on Rosie(you can see him watching really intently in the bottom panel), cause who wouldn't? Hopefully he survives his encounter at the end of this issue so he can actually do something about it!
I actually intend to put a few main characters on the back burner in the middle arc while I develop specifically Ruth and Hazel. I hope that that isn't a huge problem, and that future fans will miss the characters who take a break, but then welcome them back for big story arc number 3.
I admit that some of this is still up in the air...George R.R. Martin didn't exactly pull off leaving fan favorites about of book 4, and I don't pretend to be a better writer than him. You have my solemn promise though, I will not devote huge portions of the story to the characters readers all hate!
