CyberVR-2 - Cybernetic! Cybernetic!

The first 80s revival happened in the late 1990s to late 2000s. Decade trends seem to recycle about every 20 yrs and today there's a 90s revival happening. In the actual 90s, the 70s were made it's come back. For example in grunge music which was influenced by 70s rock and other proto-punk bands such as The Stooges and MC5. Much of the movies, graphic design, and art as well. Strange but not unexpected, today in the 2010's there has been an actual revival pairing of decades, the 90s/70s. Interesting how 20 - 40 years later both decades are now back, music and fashion but in tandem.

So why the 80s art if I'm talking about the current decade revival of 90s/70s. Well, I just love the 80s, it's always been an influence in my art. My Master Control Program (aka MCP) art project, however not apparent from most of my posts so far, influence teeter-totters between the 70s, 80s and early 90s.

CyberVR-2 (2015)

Something strange happened in the mid to late 2000s when the 80s revival cycle trend should have been on it's way out. A handful of Electronic producers were creating 80s soundtrack music. Music heavily influenced not by 80s Pop music which influenced the 80s revival of the 2000s, but influenced by music that decade used to score 80s media like movies, TV series and even Sports/News broadcasts. This new underground music movement became to be known as Synthwave, wedging it's self into this now current 90s/70s revival. Synthwave influences were 80s movies like Bladerunner, The Terminator and many of John Carpenter's films. TV shows like Miami Vice and Knight Rider for example. Even 80s coming of age movies by John Hughs or teenage Summer and Spring Break films.

Not exactly Synthwave like I have been mentioning but 80s/70s influenced though. If you like Daft Punk, then you will enjoy this. I really just wanted to post this 1980 Russian animation "Return" that was cut up to make this most excellent music video

Contemporary 80s revival films like Drive, Beyond the Black Rainbow, Hobo with a Shotgun and last Summers Netflix series Stranger Things have given this revival a second wind and huge interest in the 80s again. So would this now be call re-revival?
