Seniors Week was a huge success and one of those little triumphs was the turnout for our life modeling session which was a huge improvement from last year. It was free to attend and materials were provided so it is nice to see the community benefit from this opportunity.
This woman is a fixture at the Roundhouse. She loves table tennis and I have known her to follow bits and pieces of my fitness class from the hallway, always smiling, shining with her beautiful presence. Thanks to my friend and colleague Diana, she hit a few quick poses at the beginning of the session and was on her way, independent as ever. I look up to her because she is so active and her personality so lively. Her participation was centrefold to celebrating older adults through drawing.
Here I am sticking a contemporary pose, using a collage which was hanging off the wall with fish wire as a mask.
Sonia stepped in as well, giving our artist variety in their subjects, allowing me to guide people with the occasional advice. What a beautiful women she is. As a dancer, she had a lot to offer in the way of grace and stamina.
A simple prop like a hola hoop helps to establish proportions quickly as you can compare it to the body. It also introduces negative spaces which in turn stimulates the artist’s intuition by empowering the right hemisphere of the brain.
These last poses are from 2017 where we had a live DJ play during the event.
We are a bit like a family at the Roundhouse and it’s going to be interesting to see the part my partner T’s new program Rainbow Roundtable will play for Seniors Week next year. It brings me so much pride and joy to be given the means to do this on unceded Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh territories.
Thanks for dropping by, check out my video of the event if you haven’t already.

I love your pants! Also that lady in the header is so well balanced. I wish all seniors focused so on their fitness, we wouldn't have so many of them falling (then again I might not have as many hours 😯)
