"Educate women and their community will prosper. Deny them education and the world will suffer."
My mother grew up in the suburbs, she raised herself to be the first university graduate in her whole family, in Turkey it was the norm that girls got married the minute they turned 18 (or younger especially in East, good thing she is Aegean). The best career they could have was tailoring. The situation is remarkably better now.
She was the oldest of all her siblings, she supported them when they studied, too. It was her who worked and studied at the same time in a completely different city away from her parents but with two of her brothers whom she took the entire responsibility of.
She is my inspiration, my ultimate life goal, my future and past. I am proud to have her as my mother. (She even beat cancer, that's a different story!)
She used to be an art teacher and she can literally do anything, she is the most friggin' talented human being I know, just under-appreciated because Turkey is the kind of place where it is looked down upon to be an (female) artist. I will be sharing her art with you because I haven't got any of my own to show off with. Stay tuned!
