The Pontifical Basilica of St. Anthony of Padua is one of the main places of Catholic worship in the city of Padua, in Veneto.
Known simply by Padova as the Saint, it is one of the largest churches in the world and is visited annually by over 6.5 million pilgrims, making it one of the most venerated sanctuaries in the Christian world. It is not, however, the cathedral of the city, the title that belongs to the cathedral. It houses the relics of Saint Anthony of Padua and its tomb.
The piazza del Santo, in front, houses the equestrian monument at Donatello's Gattamelata. Donatello also made bronze sculptures (Crucifix of the Basilica of the Holy, statues and shapes of various sizes) that Camillo Boito placed on the main altar he designed.
It has the dignity of pontifical basilica. With the later Latin Pact, the property and administration of the Antonian complex were sold to the Holy See
