In the weekend I printed out this 3d super cute girly Strawberry lip balm container and also made my own homemade lip balm with natural ingredients. I love making homemade lip balms because I can choose how smooth I want it and what ingredients I want to use. On top of that I like the fact that I can choose what essential oils/flavours and colours I want. For this lip balm I used 6 natural ingredients and I decided to make it colourless.

3D printing the lip balm container

This is the container that I imported to Slic3r first before printing it. I unchecked support material for this container. Is was working fine.

For the lid, I just wanted to have support material for the inside because It was always working fine when I used Cura instead of Slic3r. The Cura 3d printing program I used for my previous 3 printer, the Printrbot simple metal. For the Prusa, the Cura isn't compatible. I really like Cura better than Slic3r. So as you can see, the support material is also on the outside and the inside, but inside it has only support material around the circle, not supporting the top(the middle part has no support at all. With my previous 3d printer, the support material was also for the top and not the outside. ( I don't need support material for XOXO engraved text).

As you can see, I didn't have any support material for the container.

Here you see the support material around the lid for the XOXO engraved text. Maybe you think: why not just flip the lid upside down? Well, then I needed support material for the lips, which I don't want. It won't look nice and too much sanding work for this little thing.

Here you see the support material of the lid. You see only support material around the internal thread and not totally till the top, which I find strange. This would not happen with Cura 3d printing program. You also see the filament "threads" not melting together.

It took the Prusa around 2,5 hours to print the container and its lid.

Well, I just left it like they were. The most important thing at that moment was, if they were able to open and close.

I removed the support material and quickly checked if the container and lid fits together. Yes, it was able to open and close easily like butter.

Time to make the homemade strawberry lip balm.

20180402_112155.jpg

I used 6 ingredients:

20% Beeswax

20% Coconut oil

20% Jojoba oil

25% Mango butter

5% Vitamine E oil

10% Strawberry flavour oil

I melted everything in the microwave for about 20-30 seconds starting with the beeswax. An the end I added some drops of strawberry flavour oil.

Then I poured it in the 3D container and left it for an hour in the fridge.

It is a bit strange that the pink/reddish strawberry colour isn't visible now, but maybe I should try strawberry essential oil instead of strawberry flavour oil. I think the strawberry flavour oil in now underneath at the bottom, but it does still smell like strawberry when you apply it on your lips. :-)
