Nigeria has a long an outstanding history of art and culture. Ranging from different ethnic group and believes. Art is also a religion as some of the early piece made are object of worship, While others holds a significant meaning amongst the people, dating as far back as 18th century.
The most popular of these piece are the nok, igboukuw, Ife, and Benin art. Mostly teracota (fired clay). Such piece were discovered before the event of any form of civilization. Some are the head of queen mothers, and palace alter piece. Today i visited the oyoma art gallery warri delta state Nigeria, owned by a professor of art prof Salubi Onakufe and came across this significant wood carving, bust of a queen mother. I decided to share it with you guys.
