14"x24" watercolor painting
I had an awesome time at the global eclipse festival in Oregon this year and during my time there I drew a quick sketch of the sunset. We had done a lot of walking that day. We arrived at our camp just as the sun began to set behind the mountain and I decided to take my watercolors out to spend some time painting. The cows in the distance were grazing and the trees seemed to watch with us. I grabbed the sketch quickly and tried to feel the moment in the colors.

It's not often that a place will feel like magic so this was a special painting for me. I could still picture being in that moment and I wanted to see if I could bring it to a life sized painting. I wanted to feel that moment again so I decided to take a stab at recreating the image.
First I did a quick recap on my computer. I wanted to decide on a good size and make sure that I had another practice go before taking on the actual painting. I've never painted anything this big before so I wanted to make sure I was in the right frame of mind and also have a plan.

I was so caught up in the creating that I forgot to take pictures of the sketch phase but here are a few process shots.

And after all that I feel like I got to experience that sunset all over again! The colors were so much fun to paint and I really enjoyed being able to build onto a painting and a feeling that already had good vibes.
