Art Practice by Gail: Women of Tranquility

I adore women regardless of what their status in life is for they all inspire me to become a better woman myself.

Hello! How had you been all doing? Me? I feel ecstatic, joyous, merry, and lot more of positive emotions despite the fact that I had put myself on house arrest because I had been so down with flu for days. Well, I do not find it necessary though since I always want to stay at home.

I had been practicing my watercolor for the past few days and yehey, I can say I am getting a hang of it with or without pencil that would serve as my guideline.

Why the progress and hype, Gail? Well, I actually enjoy the company of my tablet beside me on my working table. Oh no! Do not get me wrong with that! I had been enjoying re-watching (since I already watched those first in the movie house) some Marvel Films. Talk about binge watching though.

Anyhow, let us get started since I will go through two simple watercolor artworks. I used watercolor cake by the way and watercolor paper. If you want to paint with me, you can use the same paper or a simple one, just make sure it is not that thin though for it will be easily break with some amount of water.

Let us begin with this one. This took an hour to finish since I need some colors to dry and I had fun watching Dr. Strange on my personal computer [pc].

Before anything else, I would like to share that my model for this evening's session is this Philippine Post Stamp that I got from a friend, or should I say ex-boyfriend. It is an artwork of Angel Cacnio.

I used my FC F lead pencil in making up a sketch. I actually did not took a lot of time since the drawing would then be covered in painting. I just got myself acquainted as to how I would execute this artwork and still put my signature art style on this one since I am not a master copy.

When I was done sketching, I erased some unnecessary drawings. I started painting then. Again and again, I would not be tired in telling you all and to myself to start with light colors first when painting because when you put dark tones on the wrong areas, it would be hard to get rid of it. And if you did with a help of water and blotting it with a cloth, it will still leave a stain.

I used different shades of flesh and brown to come up with a blooming face. Aside from the undertone on the left portion of the face is pink, orange and red which nursing moms usually have because they were blooming

I know I was not yet done with the face, but I decided to proceed with the subject's hair. I decided that it should not be black as it may create a contrast on our portrait but rather opted for grey with a bit shade of green. The outline of the hair of course should be darker.

You can be creative when it comes to painting the face, just make sure you are willing and excited to do it!

When I felt a bit satisfied with the mother, I headed on to painting the baby's face. I really am not a fan of it since for me babies are hard to paint, but since we all need to develop, and by developing it requires you to be open for change, so I was up for the challenge.

Since the baby is just few months old, I opted it to have short hairs, although some babies already have thick hairs after they were born.

When I was almost through, I have thought of making it a bit of more interesting by adding a backgroud such as flowers behind just like from the post stamp.

For this one, I just wanted to be so random while watching Captain America: Civil War. My eyes were most of the time on my tablet screen. It was just an easy painting though since I have not used any pencil for this one. I am not trying to be arrogant though.

When I was almost finished, I splattered some watercolor on the right side of the artwork to create bits of flowers, and then have started to make some leaves to finish this simple Japanese portrait even though it was not perfect.

Anyway, have you enjoyed it with me? I hope you all do. Have a great weekend ahead.

Lots of Love,
Johanna Gail

You made this painting while watching "Dr strange"? You got amazing skills haha and i liked the way you draw the blurred edges of the painting giving it a shady look

Yes. =) I like Dr. Strange a lot. Thank you. =)

another masterpiece you have here. I love the fact that despite your talent you still admit that you need to improve at some aspects. The baby turned out cute as well. :)
