Gail Arts: My Milky Way (Acrylic Paint Process)

Here in the Philippines, the Summer or (very) dry season is about to end. You do not beed to check PAG-ASA to confirm that though because it is evident with the changes that is going on around us.

Here in Cagayan de Oro (which is basically on the southern part of the Philipines), it has been sunny every morning and then the weather changes when it reaches on the afternoon. Sometimes it rains, but sometimes the thick clouds dissolve or move to another area. Climate change, anyone?

Anyhow, I made an art work for the Summer Ender and will show to you the process.

I call this My Milky Way with an image of because Ice Creams are known to be creamy and milky. I will further explain later why and how I came up with this simple art work.

Art Process

I started of by painting a beach since I wanted to make an art series of a beach scene. But I was not in the mood to do so and I needed more small canvases for this certain subject. I then decided to make a surealistic work for an upcoming art show. I hope it would not be moved gain.

As you can see I painted it then with white acrylic as its primer.

For the ice cream, I painted it with pastel colors (lilac or lavender, light blue, bright yellow, and red). The ice cream cone is painted with chrome yellow.

As you can see on the process, I started painting the background with dark colors so that the subject which is the ice cream melting would stand out. Artists usually do this technique especially when they want to put emphasis on their subject. White acrylic paint has also been splattered to give a milky way feel on the work.

The ice cream melted was colored with different fabric colors.

And finally the process is about to be finished.

It was fun making an art work as easy as this one. The reason why I chose such subject because I wanted to change the genre of art work.

Why ice cream to milk way? Well, because when you are in love you view the person as your universe. And that universe of yours melt when the person is with you.

Have you felt being in love? Does it feel the same way for you?

And here is a real ice cream that I brought at the mall. This is a homemade ice cream made up of coconut milk. It tastes great too!
