Konjed: Rest near the campfire

After a day of hiking Konjed and me settled down and made a campfire. Fortunately there was firewood near by and Konjed helped me gather some of it. Of course she insisted that her sticks were incredibly large and heavier than mine. I gave her an encouraging smile and put our wood together. It wasn't all too much, but we could always go and get some more.

Did you ever try to make fire in nature? Last week Konjed saw a TV show which showed its audience how to make it with rubbing sticks together. It didn't seem too hard and she impatiently waited for us to try it out. It's one of the reasons why we decided to take a hike and quite frankly I started to enjoy it as well. Getting away from it all and just being together out under the stars.

So I took Konjed's sticks (which she pointed out were too big for starting a fire) and placed them on top of each other. But then I noticed that we were forgetting the most important ingredient: kindling. Konjed realized it as well and pulled out some dry grass from her pocket. She told me that she had gathered it to make a little pillow out of it, but gladly gave it to me when I told her that we would need it to make the fire.

... It must have taken nearly an hour before we got the fire going and we had to take turns rubbing the sticks together. It's really, really, really hard work! We both agreed to bring a lighter next time!
