This is "Synthromo", a 100% black ballpoint pen illustration I did in 2014 for the Belgian Acid Techno label "Narcosis Records". The original artwork was drawn with black ballpoint pen on bristol paper. The original size is 30x30cm

Here's a look at both sides of the cover.

Like most of my works from that time, I don't have any photos of the process but I have prepared you some close ups.

And here's the real wax, ready for the needle.

So damned cool. Was reminded of the trio of Vermillion Androids from the Legion show.

Glad you dig it @steven.nam and thank you for commenting! Oh I didn't know about Legion, the pict you posted looks damn cool! Seems I must check this out!!

AMAZING @haedre * ___ * Love your stuff so muchhhhhhh :D The small and cramped composition + those helmets with those cables hanging off the ceiling and the thousand different knobs and buttons * ___ *

Love this one so much !

upvotes and resteems

Thank you Spider! This one was a bit tough :D

Amazing!
I love the detail of your work. It has that retro feeling that I simply adore. It could be an art piece for an 80’s Carpenter movie! Awesome!

Don’t worry about the process. I run into the same problem constantly. I forget to document what I’m doing and then I’m stuck with the result and I don’t have the steps.
I think it might be because most of the times it’s because we don’t know what we’re doing and we’re learning while creating.
Or at least that’s what happens in my case.

Anyway... amazing artwork!!!

Thank you for commenting @the-beard! I am glad you're digging it!

In my case I just didn't have any decent camera around at the time. Today it's even difficult to avoid them :D

Yeah no process pictures also mean also you were way too concentrated! =)

Wow amazing detail on this one

Thank you very much @mathowl!!!

Awww yea, all those details, nom nom. Also extra yay for the claustrophobic feels <3.

I don't even have the words to describe my awe for this.

How long did this take to do?!

Glad you're enjoying it @manouche! I don't remember exactly since it's already a while but probably a good week full time (but it can be more :D ).

Wow! An amazing amount of detail has gone into this. Looks awesome.

Thank you so much for appreciating @choogirl!!!!! :))))

Very nice pen and ink, it looks like something that took you awhile to complete, very nice looking.

Thank you @bashadow! For its size it's quite a long process indeed, it's a bit old so I am not sure anymore but I think around 5 to 6 days.

Awesome composition!

Thank you @rodrigozottis!

Oh man, the details you have managed to pulled off is so amazing. All these knobs, hanging cables, and pianos! Like other people's comments, it has this retro feeling that you'd see in 80's. I bet it took you a long time to complete this - so worth all the effort though!

One-point perspective is spot on. Also helps to enhance the composition by directing my attention to three men. It got great depth! 👍

Cheers!

Thanks @dm7! Glad you're appreciating =)

Took around a week if I remember correctly. Taking the time always worth it but I reckon it is somehow difficult nowadays.

Symmetria or oine point are charming to use as they indeed focuses somewhere but at the same time, it can divert from the rest, still I dig it too :D

Thanks again .)

You're welcome @haedre! :) A good artwork always take a serious amount of dedication and time - I think this 1 week was worth it. :) And yeah, like everything else, it can either make the composition work or break it. You just gotta master it and... hope for the best? Haha.

Cheers

Really good work, @haedre!

Thank you @krasnec!

Fantastic work!!!

Thank you @annicont!

"Profusion ! "
That's the only one word that came to my my mind when looking at this... I love it.
Great damn job :)

I like that word =) Thank you @berien!!

Wow the detail in the ship's consoles and tubing is insane. Love the musiciancrew and keyboard interfaces. What a great record cover!

Thank you @carlgnash! I think I was quite inspired for this one .)

Dude. You belong on the pages of Heavy Metal Magazine! You rock!
Do you do any comics? Any illustrated stories?

Thank you @digitalfirehose! I'd love to be in Heavy Metal, it'd be a consecration for me =)
I do comics, just scroll down my profile or take a visit on my website ;)

Very good! makes me think of daft punk
is there some way I can hear the music?
Yeah with work that is obviously not based on photographic reference the process should not be a requirement at all. :)

True it looks a bit like daft punk :D Wasn't intentional of course.

I edited and added a link to the music but here it is, the Discogs page.

Thanks for the comment =)

I'm a fan of pen and ink style drawings, and detail always compels me to look closer.

This piece is visually dense and engaging, it pleases me to view so much linework in such a small format. Fits the theme of the label/genre perfectly.

I swear, this is making me want to spring for the Wacom tablets you can draw on, because I've been away from it for too long.

Thanks for sharing this.

Glad to meet a fan of ballpoint work! I haven't posted many of them yet since I do more colours at the moment, so more to come.
And they are all rather small indeed -)
Thanks for your comment!

You're the best @slothicorn =) Thank you!

Amazing job!!

It reminds me a comic by Frank Miller called "Hard boiled", with some pages full of details.

Cheers.

Thank you very much @trenz! Wow! I didn't know "hard boiled". I am definitely going to read it. Thanks!

Yes, you should, it is completely insane! Enjoy it ;)

Pheww yeah! Just read issue #1. The amount of detail is incredible and indeed, what an insane story! :D Thanks for making me discover it.

You are welcome ;)
