ShortArt #4 : Winner Project Riba International Prize

in art •  6 years ago  (edited)

The Royal Institute of British Architects (Riba) choosed the Children Village - Fundação Bradesco, a school complex situated in northern Brazil designed by Aleph Zero and Rosenbaum, Brazilian architects as the World's Best building 2018.

In the ShortArt #2, I spoke of the finalists with my favorite Toho Gakuen School of Music, more brutalist architecture. But this timber building is a beautiful smart and low impact architecture.

"The prize means a huge amount in the context of Brazilian architecture because the country’s rural structures – and younger architects – rarely receive international acclaim." - Gustavo Utrabo, Rosenbaum co-director.

The Riba's International Prize chose this school (540 children) for its low impact on the environnment with a meaning social impact. For example, the air conditioning has been abandoned in favor of natural ventilation. Great example of modern architecture well integrated its environment thanks to a closed collaboration with the local community.

"How could architecture become relevant to this location marked by rural and indigenous memories, techniques, aesthetics and rhythms?" - Aleph Zero.
