Thomas Becket by E. B. Copnall

Can anyone guess what he was doing? Or know its' sculptor perhaps?

I haven't seen this sculpture before till I passed-by at the back of St. Paul's cathedral on my way to another bus stop fwe weeks back. Not usually my route as because of the bikathon that time, my usual street was cordoned off.

A plaque near it says, BECKET by Bainbridge Copnall 1973.

Wikipedia shows this sculptor was from Edward Bainbridge Copnall, a British sculptor and a painter, best known for his architectural and decorative sculptures featuring allegorical and religious subjects.

One such sculpture is of Thomas Becket  in St. Paul's churchyard.

I still don't know what it was doing.

what's that :)

I really don't know, but looks like he is falling down the steps

it's usually architectural or religious they said. But never mind ;)

very interesting sculpture @immarojas

Is there a meaning behind it? What is the name of it or who is the artist?

Best regards,

@mpspringer

the artist is E B Copnall in the title. he liked doing religious sculptures accordingly but am not sure if that's biblical :)

It kinda looks like he's falling. It's a cool sculpture!

Hmmm his arms would look differently i think if he's falling, like protecting the body posture? it reminds me of a painting in our church where people are in purgatory. their arms look like that as well as their expressions. or can just be something else :)

Wow, that's deep!

That in learning as well that Copnall like religious stuff so that clicked :)

Makes sense!
