Hyper Detail Illustrations And What Inspired Them

Something a little different today.
I thought i'd share the story behind my latest drawing style.
Early 2019 I found myself half way around the world sitting my first Ayahuasca ceremony. After what seemed like hours of intense journeying I decided I needed some fresh air and alone time, it was then I came across this enormous tree towering over me. When I took a closer look it appeared to be made of a mass of tubes twisting and contorting around each other, each of which were pulsing what looked like sound waves up and down their length. I soon realised these waves were coming from another source. It was as if I were witnessing the tree's process of absorbing energy from the soil and circulating that energy up through it's trunk to the tips of it's branches and leaves and then back down into the soil (it was quite something!). I'm not a biologist but at the time this process looked stunningly like the function of our veins and arteries in circulating blood around our body and back to the heart.

The following morning (although still tired and groggy) I got out my sketch pad and immediately started drawing these 'waves' of energy flowing up and down these tubes, eventually forming a picture. Although it has proven challenging and time consuming to capture this visual on paper (let alone describe!) I get a lot of joy out of seeing the final product.
