@Amvanaken won my contest!

I held a contest to celebrate my 300 watchers! As a wildlife artist and I love animals, I wanted to emphasis love for animals so I had an "I LOVE MY PET" contest. You share a picture and tell us all about your pet! the winner gets a colored pet portrait and the first runner up wins a pet caricature!

He loves his dawg Wilson!

I love how he and WIlson have such a bond and Wilson sure was a cutie when he was a puppy

The Drawing Process!

The materials I used are:

• Colored pencils (two kinds)
  i. pentel colored pencils This is wax based and the pigment is hard, good for details and thin lines
  ii. Mitsubishi japan uni no. 888 this artist grade pencils are rich in color, very vibrant!
• Sketchpad the paper is very textured, 90 gsm and acid free
• black ink pen
• signo white pen

first, we sketch

Next, we put base tone for the skin

• yellow first
• • then apply flesh tone*
• *then some yellow green
  
  
  

I used red brown to outline the eyes first and the eye brows, this serves as a midtone shading already.

I fill in the eyes with green but lightly!

I use dark brown to darken the outlines further

Here:

• I add some yellow to the skin for more color
• blue to the hair (that serves as the shine)
• I use black to color the eye brows ( this are shadows already)
  

I add red brown, burnt umber brown (dark brown) and black to the hair

I shade in lightly some blue for the jacket
then I shade it with purple, green and brown

using color pink and red adds more life to the skin. You can add some on the cheeks, nose tip, forhead and chin. Add also some orange and brown.

For the eyes:

• I put grey on the white areas
• i put yellow, yellow green, green and sky blue to the eye color
• dark green, red brown and black to outline the eyes
• and putting white ink (signo white) on the shine to make it realistic and shiny!

putting blue as shading is very effective and adds a realistic effect especially when viewed from afar. Putting white dots on the nose for shine and some on the lips also will give it a very nice realism effect.

Drawing WIlson!

okay so to draw Wilson, I start with the nose.
** Wilson's color is very tricky** What we do first to get this effect is
(1) color yellow, orange, brown patches all around
(2) slowly cover dark areas with dark brown, blue, purple and black

Nose base color

• yellowish brown
• dark brown
• blue
• black
  
  
  

Here the nose already is formed, it also has touches of violet and blue. Then as I said, patches of earth colors all around before darkening with black and brown.

the eyes color:

• yellow
• blue
• purple
• orange
• red
• brown
• then outline with black
• add white ink to the eye's shine

And Done!

this photo is taken with daylight although the paper warped because it's not so thick

With flash, we see it's more vibrant
