Week 1:
Each weekend, I will be showing the best 3 satellite images I have come across in the attempt to highlight the beauty of the planet we all reside. I will also give a little detail, for those interested in what the image is showing.
Bombetoka Bay, Madagascar. This image from ASTER on NASA's Terra satellite shows Bombetoka Bay just before it opens up into the Mozambique Channel. Water is shown as blue and is pink where the sediment in the water is thick. The green areas are mostly mangrove forests. (Photo by NASA/GSFC/USGS EROS Data Center)
Akpatok Island, Canada. This island, which is surrounded by ice in the picture, attracts cliff-nesting birds, whales, and walruses.(Photo by NASA/GSFC/USGS EROS Data Center)
Guinea-Bissau. This captures a coast of the West African county's coastline. Edited in color using infrared to provide more interesting shapes, complex patterns can be seen where silt is carried from the streams into the ocean.
I hope you liked the first, of what will hopefully be many posts showcasing the best photographs captured of Earth, which commonly go unnoticed.
