Illaria, portrait of a Beautiful Italian Woman - Acrylic on canvas

in art •  8 years ago

Here is one of my portraits. The model is a lovely Italian lady named Illaria.
She's from the south of Italy, from a town called Calabria. I'm very proud of this painting :)

This is the photo that I used as a reference. I printed her photo and put it near my easel while I painted.

About a week and a half into the painting, I actually made a huge mistake. I painted one of her eyes too low! It was a disaster... I managed to paint over the bad eye with skin tones and paint a nice beautiful eye in the correct place.
I think I did a pretty decent job in the end ;) I hope the painting does her justice.

Ahh don't you hate it when you make a fundamental flaw in the "underpainting" I am glad I work mostly digital these days if nothing else reversing the image helps me notice mistakes more often. Do miss the old days by hand and using a mirror to look at the work to see its flaws :) nice job on this I like the lighting, its good to see work done by hand still.

Thank you. I'm actually doing mostly digital too. I haven't painted any new stuff for a while. I'm Mostly into digital Vector as far as creating new content.

Beautiful.. If one day you decided to paint me, mind the eyes! :-)

yeah, that could be on the cards...

nice!
Calabria is a region, not a town, btw ;)

Ah! Thank you for telling me. I've never been to Italy sadly. Sorry I got that wrong. Cheers

Wonderful painting!! It captures her expression so well :) And oh boy, when those mistakes happen it really gets exciting haha. Will it be saved....will it be ruined... it all hangs in the balance. Glad you made it through! ^^

Yeah, I really thought that I buggered it up completely. Very stressful but I was quite happy when I fixed it. It took sooo much paint to cover up that eye.

Cheers man :)

very expressive

Thanks, I will have to post the painting of you!

I like it, interesting lighting choices with the sharp line lights on the face and soft curved light on the shoulder.

Thanks. There is a sad story to that painting. I sold it to a guy who wanted it as a gift for his fiancée. Tragically she fell ill and died in hospital before they could be married. Omg! So terrible... :(

She is gorgeous very good job !

Thanks @densgirl94, it was quite a project...

Looks great! Nicely done :D

Thank you very much for that @isteemit. I will post another more quirky lady portrait soon :)
