Original art - early work - Minotaur

Following on from my last post, I'd like to share with you the very first piece of original art I ever uploaded to the internet!

'Minotaur' was created way back in c. 1992, using Bic Orange biro pens on paper. It was drawn over many hours on blue British Telecom card/paper whilst I was working as an international telephone operator! I would habitually spend the time between calls (which most of my colleagues seemed to spend gossiping, reading or doing crossword puzzles) doodling away happily to myself! I have a collection of literally hundreds of doodles in this style, but 'Minotaur' is my favourite of them...

In this first shot I've isolated the ink work from the blue background in order to facilitate including it in my redbubble portfolio for printing on all manner of print on demand products:

The level of tiny detail is very high and all manner of shapes, forms and creatures spontaneously manifested within this piece. I had not intended to 'make' this artwork look like anything overall, but the finished piece puts me in mind of a bull or Minotaur mask. One of the things that used to gascinate me the most about working on these doodles is exactly that - they invariably manifest all sorts of creatures and strangeness that I did not deliberately include!

Here's a shot of part of the detail work - I have literally only TODAY spotted that this part of the drawing looks like a little doodle-hummingbird. How I missed that the last 28 years, I really do not know!
