Handmade Baby Giraffe Dream Catcher Wall Art ~ Jentz Creations ~ Wire Wrap Metal Work

in art •  6 years ago

Here is my latest creation. A custom order by Miss Stacie. She loved the original Giraffe Dream Catcher so much that she wanted one for her daughter who loves giraffes. A smaller version of the original that measures about 25"tall by 17.5"wide. The original was closer to 3 feet tall, or taller. Didn't get the chance to measure it. She also requested a unicorn dream catcher which will be my next project.

The baby is made using the same concept as the original one. The frame is made with doubling 16g steel wire wire wrapped together with 24g silver and brass wire. This gives the frame strength and durability to keep its shape while standing so tall.

With this one I decided to continue the animal print of a giraffe into the metal work of the neck and arms. 18g steel wire was hand bent into squares in a random pattern. Antique bronze seed beads are wire wrapped around each spot to give it the natural brown color to bring it to lifelike.

A wire weaving technique is worked around a green pearl bead to create the eye for a stunning look. Look at that fine detail!

Yellow & brown tulle is knotted on the neckline to make the main. White pearl beads are sewn along the knots to keep the knots secured and give it an elegant appeal.

Yellow thread is weaved into the body to create the dream catcher net layered with brown thread weaved onto the net to create the animal print spots.

The tail is made using vintage lace tied on the end of the dream catcher the same way as the main is done. This lace came from my great-grandmother's stash she collected when she used to work in a manufacturer back in the day. Light & airy feathers are adorned with large white pearl beads that are sewn onto some of the pieces of lace. A tassel made from the last threads of the net finishes off the tail. This lace tail adds even more elegance to this beautiful giraffe dream catcher.

Its fun!! The best part is sharing my work with others :) I have some necklaces, key chains, & hair pins I'm working on now that will be posting next.
