Sketch Portrait | Anne of the Green Gables

in art •  7 years ago  (edited)

Today’s entry, I sketched my favorite childhood classic novel, it brings back so many memories. Anne of the Green Gables is a Canadian novel in 1908 written by LM Montgomery. It has been widespread and popular across the world for its inspiring and wonderful story. I’ve watched the film starred by Megan Follows in 1985 and I love the way she portrays Anne, she was perfect!

This sketch only needs paper and pencil, regular pencil will do.

To start with, I draw the outline of her face as my guide. It’s easier to sketch if you start with outlines as these are the foundation of your portrait. When I’m done, I start sketching her eyes, nose and eyebrows in detailed.

Hair is the most difficult part if you do sketch portrait, I also had a hard time achieving this look. The picture below shows how I sketch twisted hair. This is the easiest technique for me.

Since I only used regular pencil, I use my finger tips in spreading the shade to achieve this look. I did not put too much shade in this portrait.

The finish portrait of Anne Shirley. If you’re an experienced illustrator this may be too simple.
