Finishing My Plate

in art •  6 years ago

My artistic picture of a man with locks is ready for the kiln. I painted in the details of his face, hair and neck with glaze and then put a coat of clear glaze over the whole plate. Sometimes it is difficult to anticipate the final look because the color of glaze can be different than the advertised color.

The photo above is the picture with the glaze Mayco Stroke and Coat Brown Cow and the same brand with a color named Tuxedo which is black. I blended a little of the tuxedo color with the brown cow to make a darker brown. It is more difficult to paint with glaze than it is to draw with charcoal. The charcoal can be blended to get a certain shade, but the glaze is more difficult for me because I don't have those painting skills.

My picture represents my artistic expression anyway, so I just hope that it turns out okay after it is fired. All of the students are getting ready for an artist walk where we will get the opportunity to display some of our best works. I don't know yet what I am going to display. I know that I can find a great photo to show, but my pottery is no where close to some of the things that other students have made. They are more advanced than me and have been working with clay for several years.

My vase is still on the shelf waiting for me to finish it, but I needed to complete the easier projects first.

Have a great day.
