Many Ways to Get to Your Goal

@marty-arts, @jungwatercolor and @jnart are together producing basic watercolor tutorial for the Steem-community. Our common name is @water-art. Here you can learn about art in general and specifics about watercolor painting.

Today I finished a rather cool project. I had the invitation from @dimimp to produce some SteemJet art a while ago and this is what came out of it. It's such a fantastic way of collaborating - sometimes you get inspired and can combine one persons need with your own interests. If you have your own Steemit-project and want me to use your project in a coming @water-art tutorial - feel free to tell me.

The Tutorial

Except creating art for one of Steemits more active forums that @dimimp provides - SteemJet, this tutorial is about explaining step by step a watercolor painting procedure.

Final result

Image313.jpg

1. First of all I figured out an idea and motive and picked a leftover paper with a cool pattern. Step 1 was to mask with masking tape.

Image34.jpg

dots1.png

2. Cutting out the shape where you want to leave out the white - This is the tricky part with watercolor. You have to work from light to dark and leave out the white - leave out the paper as without paint.

Image35.jpg

dots1.png

3. Then removing some paint from the paper (as you see the paper was already filled with paint when I started). I used sandpaper to remove the outer layer of the paper.

Image36.jpg

dots1.png

4. Then the flowing wet-on-wet part as shown in my last video tutorial

Image37.jpg

dots1.png

5. Next adding some strong color from the tube.

Image39.jpg

6. And last in the watercolor technique painting the black details after removing the masking tape.

Image310.jpg

The lesson I want to make clear in this as well as in the last tutorial is the procedure - you almost always have to plan your painting when you paint in watercolor. Some parts are free and loose and some are precise and tedious. But as one of my teachers once said - it is better to paint only when you know what to do - at least if you are heading for a specific goal as I did in this one.

Post Process

And because I was a bit to stressed and quick in this painting I could not produce the result I wanted - the painting above. I could have painted it all over again... but because I try to level up my digital painting skills that route was more intuitive.

Final result again!

I dunno how I missed it but this is great, I enjoyed following every bit of it , at some point I thought the broken plain was the final piece

Bravo Johhanes, some sky you made here, excellent one. Like sky is really bursting and exploding.

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Thanks you! So much easier with clouds in oil

O yes, clouds in oil are song for those in watercolors :)

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Totally awesome 😍 I hope someday to achieve a level at least similar in the use of watercolors.

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Sure you Will! Just take the time needed and work hard;)

You did it! You nailed it!! You killed it!!!

Congratultions man your art is cool

Thanks! ;)

The sky was spectacular!
If you accept a criticism,
It just needs a little yellow.

Although this looks very good.
Excellent work.

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Thanks a lot for feedback! I Will try to Γ₯rd some yellow :)

Fantastic work! How long have you been painting?

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Since little but olny as a side bussiness :)

Another wonderful tutorial. Yes, leave the white. I remember when I first learned watercolour, it was after doing oils for a bit and it was funny as it worked in reverse, in oils dark to light as you can layer upwards, in watercolour, you have to preserve the white for it's luminosity.

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Nice! Keep it up!

Hi! The result is good, I really like watercolor. I just didn't understand why you would put Scotch tape on the plane. Watercolor is light paint, it is easy to overlap another? ;)

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Well you are the only one who recognised that - then you know your painting :D At first I wanted a outer line of white around the plane. But as you say, with this result I could have skipped it because it is darker paint. Cheers!

You could use salt or chlorine to make white light around the plane ;)

Learning so much from your posts; thank you for your time and effort!

@jnart Excellent water color technique. I really liked the cloud effect and the sun rays trying to escape the clouds..Thanks for the tutorial.

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Thanks for kind words!

Excellent technique, at first glance, it looks very complicated, but in truth that was spectacular and with a simple technique, what I like the most is the effect of the clouds and the contrast of colors between them, congratulations

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Thanks a lot! Yes art is simple if you know what to do and know how to do it, but most of the time you don't have a clue

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Awesome cooperation design and stunning instructional exercise of this water shading craftsmanship and truly it's mirroring the plane is parallel with sun beams and the general impression this water shading workmanship is extremely overwhelming, continue doing the astonishing work. A debt of gratitude is in order for sharing and wishing you an extraordinary day. Remain favored
