My newest hobby - Macramé

in art •  7 years ago

Growing up, we had a few macramé style pieces in our home. Mostly plant holders that were fairly tacky in my opinion. The rope used was super rough & the colors were not so nice.... just a bit much. I really do love the macramé is back, but with a bit more of a modern flare to it. I started to learn for myself how to make these pieces, because well... I'm cheap & didn't want to pay $200.00 for a macramé wall hanging.

Here is the process & finished product of my first piece:

When telling my husband that I was going to teach myself how to make these, he wasn't really a fan of the idea. He actually asked if I could just make a blanket instead! In the end though, he proudly hung it up for me in our kitchen. So, I think he's warming up to the idea of some "trendy" artwork in our home.

Anyone else out there do macramé? Do you hate it? Love it?

I've never done it myself but I've always thought it would be interesting to try! Looks like a neat process and it turned out great. Looks beautiful on your wall!

It's actually a very satisfying process. More so if you can complete a piece in one day! But being a mama, it takes me a few days to complete one. Thanks! :D

Where did you find your pattern? I want to make a wall piece out of my spun art yarn but I can't find a pattern I love. Your design is what I'm looking for. Looks beautiful thanks for sharing!

I actually just made it myself. It's a mix of some patterns I suppose. The first knots making the triangle are square knots. Then surrounding those are double half hitch knots. Then I just added on more rope and did a little thing there in the front center. Those are just double half hitch knots as well. Cool that you have your own spun yarn! Just toutube macrame DIY and there will be lots of patterns & tips on how to do it. Sorry I don't really have a pattern to share though!

That makes it even cooler that you designed it yourself!

Thanks! I guess I never really thought of it that way as I'm really just beginning! Maybe I'll post a tutorial down the road!
