Gouache Painting of Limes

in art •  7 years ago  (edited)

I am vacationing in Florida, and there's this lovely Lime tree/bush right outside the house... those limes have been begging for it, so this morning I gently plucked a few of the plumpest, fullest, ripest, most lime smelling limes and painted them...
I worked on a sheet of watercolor paper that had been sealed with a bright green acrylic before I left for vacation...
To start, I drew the limes gently with a water soluble colored pencil in purple, then added washes of gouache paint to lay in the shadows and background. I mixed a veridian green with a lemon yellow to create my greens, then added a touch of burnt sienna to tone it down... the lighting coming from the front was much more subdued, so I mixed that with a bit of white and a phthalo blue... and the back lit edges were a white mixed with the lemon yellow/burnt sienna mixture.

Hope you enjoy!

Nice one @joshuadavis - the green and purple balance really well.

Thanks! I'm quite happy with this one! :)
