Most ordinary people start laughing when they hear, that for some weird lines someone was willing to pay millions. The truth is art is the last completely unregulated market. It is perfect for black money transactions and money laundering.
Most paintings will never see a museum they are hidden in big vaults deep in the underground. This is not art this is money and much easier to transport than gold and better to hide from finance authorities.
In times when Swiss bank accounts aren't hidden from the IRS and thanks to panama papers offshore accounts get more attention art is a stylish and safe alternative. One day all this will probably change but today it is great way for every sort of criminal.
So next time you read an ugly picture gets sold for millions don't laugh about the buyer it is probably a high rank cartel boss.
The only fools in this game are people in universities, artists and journalists thinking modern art is culture.
