Art curation on Steem / Tips and tricks

in art •  6 years ago  (edited)

Last year I made a post with some tips for artists posting on the blockchain to increase your chances of curation, some things have changed since then so this will be a slightly updated version!

Proof of human and proof of work

These are classics that will never change. In an unfortunate climate of art plagiarism it is an increasingly great idea to make a verification type post using the introduceyourself tag when you join steem. I understand the need for some people to stay anonymous so this won't work for everyone, but linking some of your other social/art accounts that show proof that this account is really you will go a long way to giving people confidence that you are who you say you are!

Proof of work This is something that most curators will look for in a post. If they are giving you a hefty vote, or have a trail that other people follow they want to make sure you did the work. Showing some of your process in the form of partial art/screenshots, however you choose will give the curator confidence. Once you are a bit more established this becomes a bit less important but it makes the post more interesting and don't forget that you are always getting new eyes on your page!

Meaning and interest

A lot of us spend quite some time on our artwork, so I know it can be a pain in the butt to write something once you finally posted it. Often we want to allow the image to speak for itself. Personally if I come across an artist that I don't know and they just post an image with no text, or here is some art I made I tend to err on the side of caution and not vote? Why? Because I have noticed a trend in the past that plagiarists tend to do this, just post an image with no explanation. It's a pity that this taints it for the legitimate artists but just adding a small paragraph about how you made your art, the medium, process or what it means to you can spark more interest in the work and give the curator some kind of context and confidence! You kill two birds with one stone.

Join communities

Many of the communities that exist currently are on discord, so you can join PAL, ntopaz server or any other number of communities to chat with and meet other artists and steem users. Developing a network is a really big part of this, I know many artists are introverts and would prefer not to do this but it really pays off and will enrich your experience.

Use the palnet tag

Lots of people are using it already and thats great! I am still finding the art tag to be a bit slim on posts to curate though so if you post, use the tag and I can award you extra PAL tokens. I want to give artists here as much support as possible and this is a simple way to do it. If you haven't heard of palnet.io yet here is a refresher:

The @minnowsupport team has just launched https://www.palnet.io so I now have the ability to reward all you artists with PAL coins in addition to steem, all you need to do is use palnet as one of your tags! If you would like to know more about this project please read my simplified guide here: PALNET: The dazed and confused user guide

Citing sources

This one is a no brainer but needs to be said over and over again. If the art is 100% your creation, say so! If you have used references as inspiration it is wise to cite them. It only needs to be an extra line in your post with a link to the sources. There is really no reason to add to the confusion so JUST DO IT!

Thats about it for now, keep making beautiful art and the curators will find you :)
